「スラッシュリーディング」で長文読解特訓
「スラッシュリーディング」って効果はあるのだろうか？
高校英語の長文読解でよく使われている方法ですね。
「スラッシュリーディング」って何なの？
「スラッシュリーディング」を行うと、どんな効果が得られるのか？
まず、スラッシュリーディングについて説明しましょう。
英文にスラッシュを入れながら読んでいく方法である。
・・・ちょっとわかりにくいね（笑）では、例を書いておきましょう。
たとえば、
The Nile is the longest river in the world. It is about 6,695 kilometers long and runs through nine countries to the Mediterranean Sea. For thousands of years the Nile has been important to Egyptians who need it for farming and for transportation. Along the Nile are the most famous monuments of Egypt: the Pyramids, the Sphinx, the great temples of Abu Simbel.

という英文があったとする。では、この文章に「スラッシュ」を入れていきましょう。
The Nile is the longest river / in the world. / It is about 6,690 kilometers long / and runs through nine countries / to the Mediterranean Sea. / For thousands of years / the Nile has been important / to Egyptians / who need it / for farming and for transportation. / Along the Nile / are the most famous monuments of Egypt:/ the Pyramids, the Sphinx, the great temples of Abu Simbel. /
といった感じになる。（もうちょっと細かく区切ってもよい）
この時、注意することが１つある。
英文を区切った順番に、つまり「前から訳で読んでいく」こと。
ではやってみましょうか。
ナイル川はいちばん長い川だ / 世界で/
それは約6690キロの長さだ / そして９つの国を通る/ 地中海まで/
何千年もの間/ ナイル川は重要だった/ エジプト人にとって/ それが必要な/ 農業と交通のために
ナイル川沿いに/ エジプトの最も有名な遺跡がある/ ピラミッド、スフィンクス、アブシンベル大神殿の/
といったような感じで理解していく。
スラッシュを入れてリーディングすることで前から理解することができるようになる。
自分でスラッシュを入れると、どこまでが「意味の通るカタマリ」なのかがわかるようになってくるのだ。
例えば
I have a lot of pens to write with.
という英文を
I have a / lot of pens / to write with.
と区切るのはおかしいと思うよね？どう？
「a lot of 」は「カタマリ」としてとらえないとおかしい。
英語長文に「スラッシュリーディング」は効果ありです。
しかし、最終的にはこのスラッシュリーディングとお別れするくらいの実力を身につけて欲しい。
